We will soon be starting a Kids Club, this will enable you to access information about all our horses, plus download pictures of them to use as wallpaper or to print out. It will also feature information about riding equipment and news in general from the equine world.

To pre-register for the club e-mail us. All information is held in strictest confidence and will not be released to any third party. Please obtain your parents permission before applying for membership.

Moore Park Stables also runs a helper scheme where children over ten are welcome to come to the stables and help out with the horses. It is important that they are competent around horses and therefore safe to assist our staff. We recommend that they attend our holiday pony camps or participate in one of our pony clubs regularly so we can be sure that they have the knowledge to work safely with our horses. Ideally they should be riding at a standard where they can walk, trot and canter independently and they should be able to groom and saddle a horse. Our Instructors will help them reach this level and will be able to assess when a child is ready to become a helper. In return for their help with grooming, saddling and some basic yard tasks the children will be able to help exercise the horses. They will work under supervision at all times and it is a great way for them to enjoy our horses and make new friends!

Meet The Moore Park Ponies!

Darkie

Darkie, a 13.2 h.h black gelding, is one of our oldest residents at Moore Park and as a result has taught generations of children to ride and develop a love for horses! Darkie is still going strong although obviously he takes things a little easier than he used to now! He still loves a good pat and a titbit though so don’t forget to say hello as you pass! He is incredibly quiet and well mannered and is an excellent pony for all beginners!

Petal

Petal is a pretty 12.2 h.h bay mare who loves to munch hay! She is a lovely pony to learn on as she is very well schooled and steady but can get a little faster when the mood takes her! She is good to handle but can be a little cheeky so watch your bum when you tighten up the girth as she may have a wee nip! Petal loves games and is really speedy when she wants to be! Petal also enjoys a relaxing ride around the park - especially if there is grass nearby!

CJ

CJ is a handsome 12.3 h.h grey gelding who loves to get dirty! Luckily he also enjoys attention particularly a good groom and he is very sweet to handle. CJ is very comfortable to ride and enjoys jumping although you have to use lots of leg to make sure he doesn’t try and stop! CJ’s favourite trick is to stop beside the arena gate in the hope he can sneak out so remember to be firm as you ride past it! CJ also likes to check out your pockets for treats so watch out if there is anything in them - he may try to eat it!

Annie

Annie, or ‘Princess Annie’ as she is affectionately known, is a 13 h.h grey mare who looks remarkably like CJ! She is very well behaved to ride but can be a little cheeky in the canter as she likes to zoom round the school and cut all the corners! Make sure you are firm and steer her out to the wall and she will quickly start to listen to you. Annie loves to jump so make sure you are in control or she will rush to the fence as quickly as possible!

Cassie

Cassie is a pretty 13.2 h.h liver chestnut mare who is privately owned but works in the school when her owner is not riding her. Cassie is extremely well schooled and a superb jumper but be careful to keep her straight or she will try and run out the side! Cassie is very forward going and loves going to the park. She can get a little speedy sometimes in the park so make sure you have a good contact on your reins - brakes are very important in the park! Cassie is very sweet to handle in her stable and loves to chat with her next door neighbour Mac!

Baskara

Baskara is another well established resident at Moore park having been one of Rose’s show horses in her younger years. Baskara was very successful and was so good she could not be parted with! Now she is one of our safest and quietest horses and a favourite amongst first time riders. Baskara is a beautiful 15 h.h bay mare with three extremely comfortable paces. She is always perfectly behaved and loves to have a steady ride around the park.

Tamiko

Tamiko is another golden oldie who is well loved by all Moore park students and Instructors. He is famous for having been a model in Vogue magazine but with his striking good looks and wonderful temperament it is really no surprise! Tamiko is around 15.2 h.h and is another favourite with beginners due to his comfortable steady paces. He also has a great sense of rhythm which he demonstrates by head banging to music! Tamiko is a real star to ride and loves to be up at the front on park rides. We think it is because he knows the track better than any of us!

Mac

Mac is a lovely 15.1 h.h liver chestnut gelding who lives next door to Cassie. Mac’s favourite trick is to pull Cassie’s bridle off her door and throw it on the floor - he likes to keep the instructors busy! Mac is very talented and works very well on the flat as well as being an extremely honest jumper. He is nice and quiet to ride but is sensitive to the whip so make sure you only give him a little tap if he is not listening to your leg.

Raj

Raj is a handsome 16.2 h.h Chestnut gelding who has a big jump and a big heart! He is very sweet to ride but can be a little stuffy off the leg so it is a good idea to carry a whip! Raj is a firm favourite amongst regular clients especially for jump group as he is very honest and has a lovely big scopey jump. He is great to ride out and very good to handle in his stable too.

Reno

Reno is a lovely 15.2 h.h buckskin gelding who can be a bit of a challenge to ride! He is capable of working extremely well but it requires a lot of hard graft from the rider! He is a great horse to learn on as he teaches you to ride forwards but it can be tiring! He will certainly get you fit! Reno has a super jump though and is nice and honest as well as being very gentle to handle and groom. Reno is a real sweetheart and is definitely one of our favourite horses!

Jacko

Jacko is a real character with a gentle temperament and a heart of gold. He is a 15.2 h.h bay gelding who is lovely and quiet to ride. He can be a little on the slow side so like Reno, is a bit of a challenge and again it is advisable to carry a whip! He is a very honest jumper but really needs ridden forwards to the fence as he is more than capable of just walking over it when he gets there! Jacko is good in the park and nice to handle but is not too fond of other horses so make sure you keep a good distance away from them if you are working with him.

Xmas

Xmas is a beautiful 15.2 h.h flea-bitten grey mare with lovely paces and an excellent jump. She is very well behaved to ride and is a super horse to learn to jump on as she is extremely honest and very steady. She is lovely to handle but watch your bum when you are tightening the girth as she can be very quick with those teeth! Xmas loves games and can be very swift on her feet when the occasion arises! She is another firm favourite for jump groups and competitions as she knows exactly what to do!

Bluey

Bluey is a handsome 15.3 h.h grey gelding who adores attention and is a bit of a softy! He is superb to handle on the ground and a lovely forward going ride. Bluey is very responsive to the leg and can work extremely nicely on the flat so is very popular with our more advanced riders. He has an excellent jump but can get a little bit carried away as it is so exciting! He can therefore get a bit strong in front of a fence and it is best to sit up and keep a good contact on the reins so he does not get too fast! Bluey is another firm favourite and a popular choice for competitions.

Bing

Bing is one of our noisier horses who always lets us know when it is feed time! He is part leased by one of our regular clients but works in the school the remainder of the time. Bing is very well schooled although he can be a little stuffy so make sure you use plenty of leg when you ride him! Bing does not jump due to past injury but he does enjoy a good ride around the park. Bing’s favourite hobby is eating whilst his biggest dislike is drains! He is certainly quite a character but a firm favourite with his regular riders!

Dave

Dave is a lovely gentle giant who is a relative newcomer to the school. He is privately owned but works in the school when his rider is not working him. He is a 16.2 h.h ex eventer who is extremely well schooled and has a nice big jump. Dave is very quiet to ride and is used for all standards of lessons. Dave is another popular choice for jump groups and competitions and has lovely comfortable paces. He is a superb all- rounder who we are delighted to have join the Moore Park team!

Shadow

Shadow is a gorgeous 14.3 h.h steel grey mare who has beautiful paces and a fantastic jump. Shadow is also privately owned by still remains a firm favourite with clients. Shadow goes very nicely on the flat and has a good big jump. She is mostly ridden by our more experienced riders as she can be a little excitable in the park but she is steady and quiet in the arena. Shadow has a lovely nature and is good to handle in her stable.

Desiree

Desiree is a beautiful 15 h.h chestnut mare who is also privately owned. She is fantastic for all standards of rider although she can be extremely bouncy in the trot! Desiree has a beautiful temperament and is very sweet to handle and groom. Desiree has a super big jump although it can sometimes be a little unseating so she is usually ridden by our more experienced students. She is super in the park and very quiet so is a firm favourite with everybody!

Thomas

Thomas is an extremely handsome 16.2 h.h dark bay gelding who is another famous model! He is often used for photo shoots as he is so good looking and is also a firm favourite to ride. He has extremely comfortable paces and a lovely smooth canter and is very well schooled on the flat. He is a real gentleman to handle and while he can get little faster in the park he is always well behaved.

Jay

Jay is a 16.2 h.h chestnut gelding who is an ex eventer. He has a fantastic big jump and is extremely honest so is very popular with riders who are learning to jump. He is well schooled on the flat although he can occasionally have a little spook - he is not the bravest horse we have! Jay gets a little over excited in the park so he is only taken out by our advanced riders, so hang on tight if you feel brave enough to give it a go! He is lovely to handle on the ground and extremely good natured.

Frenchie

Frenchie is a big chestnut gelding with fantastic paces. He is extremely well schooled on the flat although he has a big trot so can be a little bouncy! He is lovely to handle and is suitable for all standards of riders, from beginner to advanced. He is well behaved in the park and enjoys nothing better than a nice relaxing park ride! He is very good looking so make sure you stop and admire him as you pass!

Billy

Billy is a 16.2 h.h ex racehorse who is another of our privately owned horses. He is again very handsome although he likes to make faces - but don’t be deceived as he is a real sweetheart! He is great to ride out in the park and works well on the flat. He also has a lovely big jump and is extremely honest. He is lovely to handle and groom and enjoys nothing better than a good pat and a cuddle!

Toffee

Toffee is a 13.2 h.h bay gelding who is cute but cheeky! He can be a real character but is a lovely challenging ride! He is also privately owned by Shadow’s owners and definitely keeps us all on our toes! He is well schooled and has a fantastic jump but can sneak in the odd pig root so hang on to your hats! He is a firm favourite at the stables and well loved by everyone!

Polly

Polly is a pretty 14.2 h.h palomino mare who has been out enjoying a nice long holiday! She has recently returned to us and is excited about sharing her good news with us! Polly is having a baby! Watch this space for more news! In the meantime Polly will be still doing lessons and park rides as it is important for her to exercise to keep her in shape for the birth! She is lovely to ride and very quiet and enjoys a nice ride around the park. She is super to handle and groom and loves attention so be sure to give her your congratulations!
